Update and Amendment on the Commencement of FYP at 1 April 2020 (Week 10) due to Movement Control Orders: Announcement and Basic Guidelines

Assalamualaikum and Good Day to All Students and Final year Project Supervisors.

Please ignore the past email announcement on the 7th April 2020. Please be informed that students are not required to come back to the School after the end of movement control order (MCO) period if you are already back to your hometown. However, the rules may be subjected to change under certain circumstances. From the 1st April until the end of the year 2020, FYP will be conducted fully online. Please read carefully the following guidelines on the implementation of FYP

  1. For face to face discussion with your SV, you can try software like ZOOM meeting, WEBEX, SKYPE, BIGBLUEBUTTON, GOOGLE MEET etc. So please try to consult with your corresponding SV.

  2. Logbooks are to be scanned and sent to lecturers via email/UTM e-Learning/Social media/e-Portfolio (such as WhatsApp, Facebook etc).

  3. The next Students’ progress reports are to be submitted through e-Portfolio at Week 13 and Week 17.

  4. Ongoing FYP at the final semester and focusing on experimental projects that require no access to the facilities in the campus can still be carried out.

  5. Ongoing FYP at the final semester and focusing on experimental projects that require access to the facilities in the campus to run experiments and tests are NOT ALLOWED to be carried until the end of the year 2020.

  6. Ongoing FYP at the initiation stage (especially FYP1) which focused on experimental projects are encouraged to be realigned as simulation work or computer-based technology.

  7. FYP can be conducted using computer-based simulation and presenting literature critique.

  8. Online FYP seminar and online report evaluation will be conducted in week 20 and week 21, respectively: the actual date and details of the implementation are available from the action plans.

  9. There is NO POSSIBILITY of extension of time to complete FYP1, expected outcome of the project can be used as replacement / supplementary of preliminary results during the online seminar and evaluation.

  10. There is a possibility of extension of time to complete FYP2, in the third semester with an endorsement from your SV during the third progress evaluation (week 17). However, the approval of extension is subjected to the strict and undisputed decision of the FYP committee. There will be no tuition fee for the extension but please carefully consult with your SV so that the FYP can possibly be completed in this semester. Moreover, there is no clear guarantee of completion for projects that require access to specified laboratory or special/customized materials in this time and situation.
